Catholic Care’s Family Day Care team had the delight of visiting the wonderful residents at Summit Care, an aged care service in Baulkham Hills.
Child Educators Elena and Jackie accompanied the visit with children in their care, who shared in a special play session.
The atmosphere buzzed with warmth and creativity as children and residents from the dementia ward came together to craft beautiful masterpieces using pencils, textas, oil pastels, and watercolors.
At other tables, residents and children collaborated over puzzles and large block play, while many little explorers moved around the room, exchanging smiles, high-fives, and greetings with both familiar friends and new faces.
The joy shining on the residents’ faces as they connected with the children was truly the highlight of the morning — a poignant reminder of the power of intergenerational friendship and the deep human need for connection.
Adding to the fun, Child Educator May led some lively balloon games with the children, weaving in skills from her Munch and Move training to develop fine motor abilities through playful activities like catching, passing overhead, and sliding balloons across the room.
Before morning tea, everyone participated in a soothing Tai Chi session led by a specialist teacher who visits weekly to support the residents. The children eagerly followed the movements, listening attentively and sharing smiles with their new friends as they practiced together.
Emma Low, Family Day Care Coordinator, said, “This joyful morning reminded us all of the importance of staying active, engaged, and connected within our communities”.
“It was an incredible opportunity to share joy, companionship, and mutual care across generations.”
Family Day Care will return to Summit Care on the last Monday of every month.
