Existing to do Christ’s work in the community, Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains is the Diocese of Parramatta’s social welfare agency.

The most vulnerable, disadvantaged members of our community — regardless of faith, religion, gender, ethnicity, age or socio-economic background — can turn to us for support and professional care.

Our aim is to be the face of Christ and to make a positive difference — through the Church — in the lives of those who need our support, and to help them find joy and purpose in life.

Our History

1940

Four Sydney women dreamed that anyone in distress or living in poverty could receive professional care from the Catholic Church.

They wrote to the then-Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal Gilroy, suggesting that a Catholic welfare organisation be established, and the Catholic Welfare Bureau was born in 1940.

1986

When the Diocese of Parramatta was created in 1986, the welfare arm became Centrecare Parramatta.

2017

In 2017, Centacare was renamed Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Now

Today, Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains reaches thousands of people in the community each year through the work of more than 200 committed staff and volunteers.
