New partnership with Ronald McDonald House supports sick kids, families at Westmead

Jan 8, 2025

When a child is ill, it affects not only the child but also everyone in their family and community, including parents, caregivers, siblings, extended family and friends.

A new partnership with Ronald McDonald House is providing seriously ill children and their families, carers and loved ones with access to free confidential professional counselling within a dedicated space at The Children’s Hospital in
Westmead.

Grief and loss counsellor Harrison Porter visits the hospital each Wednesday.

Harrison says anyone who is dealing with the grief of a sick child at Westmead can access the service via a booking app.

“It’s a privilege to be invited into a space that can be incredibly challenging for families,” Harrison said.

“To have the opportunity to offer support to the residents and their loved ones each week is something I’m very grateful for.”
