Catholic Care’s Year in Review 2024-2025 highlights a period of strong growth, deeper partnerships and renewed commitment to those most in need across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
Executive Director Helen Emmerson reflected on the last financial year, noting she was “inspired by the team’s dedication, compassion and collaborative spirit, evident in every program, initiative and interaction.”
She reaffirmed Catholic Care’s mission as the social welfare arm of the Diocese of Parramatta – to continue Jesus’ ministry by offering care when it is needed most, regardless of a person’s circumstances or background.
Now in the second year of its three-year strategy, Catholic Care has strengthened family and relationships counselling services, expanded advocacy for people experiencing homelessness, and supported refugee families settling into local communities. Key initiatives included the Parramatta Street Feast, the Homelessness Memorial Service and new partnerships with groups such as Older Women’s Network, Diamond Women and Community Housing Limited.
Helen said partnerships remained essential, connecting Catholic Care with parishes, community agencies, councils, NSW Government, volunteers and national networks to “amplify care”. She said the organisation’s values – gratitude and love, availability, trust, advocacy and perseverance – continue to guide every decision.
“Thank you for being part of this journey with us,” she said.
Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, Bishop of Parramatta, said: “Catholic Care’s team demonstrates radical love by supporting the vulnerable, isolated, and marginalised, as well as those in urgent need of care. Their work goes beyond providing support – it is a living witness to God’s love.”
Fr Fernando Montano VG, Episcopal Vicar of Social Welfare and member of Catholic Care’s advisory board said many people across the region continue to face challenges including housing pressures, mental health concerns and cost-of-living stress.
“What this report tries to present are the efforts of trying to respond to the needs of many as we try to carry out the mission of Christ to become beacons of light, hope and love for those whose hope is running thin.”
